DSi XL dated for Q1 2010 release, Nintendo confirms

Not only will the first few months of 2010 play host to the release dates of a squadron of delayed aught-nine blockbusters, it's also when we can expect to see the recently announced, seriously embiggened DSi XL hit North American and European store shelves. According to a Nintendo spokesperson, the new model of the handheld will be released stateside (and ... union-side?) in the first quarter of 2010.
That just leaves us with one final, appropriately oversized question: How much is itSource: Houstonist RSS Feed

2011 Lexus LFA: First Drive [Jalopnik Reviews]

The 2011 Lexus LFA isn't the fastest car ever made, nor the most powerful or even the quickest to 60 MPH. It can't even match the ZR1 around the Nürburgring. So why will this Toyota cost nearly $400,000?

Full Disclosure: Lexus wanted us to drive the LFA so badly they flew me to Miami and put me up in a fancy hotel. Also, they fed me cornbread with jalapenos in it. If anyone wants to bribe me, southern food is definitely the way to do it, but I'd really have preferred country hamSource: Jalopnik RSS Feed

JD Power Roundtable: Social Media is Key for Ford

All accounts from last week’s JD Power’s Automotive Roundtable in Las Vegas suggest that Ford Group VP Jim Farley laid out a really compelling picture of how a major manufacturer looks at its opportunities in digital, and especially, social media.

Alex Snyder, in Dealer Refresh, quotes Farley as saying that TV gets 50 percent of its budget; Digital gets 25 percent; “Experimental” gets 15 percent; and Paper/Magazines get 10 percent. All of Ford’s advertising is nowSource: The Local Onliner RSS Feed

Equinix: The Biggest Fish in the Pond

Trader Mark submits:

I've had a limit buy order out for Equinix (EQIX) for many months now; the price I was seeking now looking foolish. Talk about a perfect chart.

We talked about this sector, and stock in particular in July [Jul 29, 2009: Guest Post - Colocation Stocks and Industry Overview] and the stocks were expensive then, and have only become more so. Geoengineering the Planet: The Possibilities and the Pitfalls

Atmospheric scientist Ken Caldeira first became known for his groundbreaking work on ocean acidification, a phrase originally coined as a headline for one of his papers. Of late, however, Caldeira's research has led him into the controversial area of geoengineering - the large-scale, deliberate manipulation of the Earth's climate system.

Many scientists have shied away from the subject because they feel it is a wrongheaded and dangerous path to pursue. But Caldeira - who heads aSource: Matter Magazine RSS Feed

Uncharted 2 Home space opens on Thursday

It's hard for us to blame you for wanting to extend the Uncharted 2 experience. Who wouldn't want a big second helping of the one of the year's best titles? While it's no substitute, we're hopeful that the Home space based on the game opening on Thursday will help to fill the hole in your heart, if only a little.
Those of you who haven't played the game might be able to help stave off the cravings with the space's three mini-games, though we'd submit that time would be far better spentSource: PS3 Fanboy RSS Feed

Fancy Footwear at SfN (Shoe of the Week) [On Becoming a Domestic and Laboratory Goddess]

Last night Dr. Isis got the following letter from one of her faithful little muffins...

Dear Isis,

Greeting! I am an avid reader of your blog yet a rare commenter. One thing that we have in common besides a love of hot, hot science is a pair of hot, hot shoes although I am limited to those of the male or unisex variety (except for the pair of 5 in black stilettos, but I digress). Gran Turismo 5 making-of video reveals mysterious packaging [update]

It's quite clear to us that Gran Turismo 5 creative director Kazunori Yamauchi knows way more about cars than we do. Take, for instance, this latest making-of video discovered by GT Planet (embedded after the break), where he gets down to the nitty gritty on the inclusion of Mercedes' 2011 SLS AMG in his game. Before he delves into the possibility of the car appearing on the game's cover, he's shown with co-workers handling a box with three disc cases -- one blue, one red, one black. Now it’s cashing on its fame, raising $22.5 million in a first round of funding led by Meritech Capital Partners.

The Seattle-based PopCap plans to use the capital for working capital and potential acquisitions. The move is surprising in part because the company has been profitable sinceSource: Venture Beat RSS Feed

Facebook’s Naked Reality: Social Networks Research Insights

It’s already an established phenomenon that in the social networking era friendship is more virtual and 6 degrees of separation has now been reduced to mere 3 degrees. However, seminal work of Dr. Robin Dunbar, an anthropologist, concluded that the cognitive power of the brain limits the size of the social network that an individual of any given species can develop. Extrapolating from the brain sizes and social networks of apes, Dr Dunbar suggested that the size of the human brain allowsSource: Trendsspotting RSS Feed

Watch The Lamest Day 24 Hours Of LeMons BS Inspections In Timelapse Animation! [24 Hours Of Lemons]

The most cars ever in a 24 Hours Of LeMons race (130), three former LeMons winners, and a cold rainy Ohio day all made for a very long day of Cheat Detection.
